First, this evening after work, I noticed that Memnoch’s face is getting a little fatter because his waddle is really starting to come in now! The skin is getting all bumpy & red & almost swollen looking. I couldn’t get a really close look because he didn’t want me messing around with his face (I imagine it probably has some growing pains going on there). He did let me check out his comb & the back is split in two, but also has a single tiny point in between them. It also seems like the comb will permanently fold over the way it does. I tried to straighten it out or fold it to the other side of his head & it was like the cowlick curl in the middle of my forehead – not moving or changing. I guess maybe they just grow in like that sometimes? I’m not sure. I guess we’ll find out as he matures.

Second, integrating the chicks is going to have to wait a little longer. I should have put them all together sooner because now the M&M Twins are a lot bigger than Lila, Nyx & Sparta. Especially Sparta. My poor little bit was the subject of Memnoch’s rage when I put them all in the jungle gym together. I read that if the chicks have a huge size difference, this can happen. It also happens with the adult chickens & the chicks. So, I think for right now, I’ll work on getting the Twins used to being outside next to their parents & when the other 3 are 2 months old, I’ll start putting them in the grow out pen with the Twins (sepearate at first, just in case). It’s just going to take a little longer than I thought it would. Not a bad thing or a major change in plans. Just a little slower to the goal.
