All 5 chicks went outside today! There was a couple pecks from the older ones on the younger ones, but then they kept to themselves on separate sides of the makeshift pen I put together & used my legs as a barrier between each other. Hoping to get all of them out there together again soon.

I also switched out the Ithakē Flock’s waterer from the dish they have been using since November to a nipple watering system attached to a cooler. I wanted to switch it out because I have read that the nipple system is less wasteful. Also, because the 3 smaller chicks needed a bigger dish than what they had & I could give them the M&M Twins’ waterer if the Twins had had their parents’ waterer. It worked out this way because I had bought the nipple system last month & didn’t have money this month for a new dish for the little chicks. This month was really bad for a paycheck. Anyhow, I was worried the hens would have a hard time with it since their crests cover a good amount of their visual field, but Nausicaä figured it out first & the rest of them followed quickly. It was funny watching them all gathered around trying to figure out this new thing.

For the most part, none of the Ithakē Flock was interested in the chicks this time. Penelope was the only one to eventually come over & check things out. She’s my best gal & I hope I can get some fertilized eggs for her to hatch next spring.

And before the rain came in, everyone went back inside to rest from their big day out.
