So, chickens scratching around isn’t a big surprise. It’s pretty much all they do during the day. It’s not even surprising that hens would make a nest to bury their eggs in. This was a little strange to see a perfect circle dug out of the straw & dirt in the exact spot Athena, Penelope & Nausicaä like to lay their eggs (just to the left of the nesting box Calypso uses). It was empty, there were no eggs in it. Just this brilliantly perfect hole in the ground. You can also see the little field mouse that’s taken up residence in the pen in this picture, just to the left & above the hole in the ground.

In the barn again for the night, Calypso, Penelope & Nausicaä were rolling around in the dirt. I tried to get some pictures & video of them doing the dirt bath thing since it’s hard to describe, but it was a little too dark & my phone was running out of space.

I tried using the Cinamatic app to lighten up the video to show how they roll around, fluff up their feathers & get covered with dirt.

1 egg today & I’m not exactly sure which hen it came from. I’m inclined to say Calypso just because she’s the one who’s been the most consistent in laying eggs, but it doesn’t look exactly like the eggs she usually lays.
