We tried two new things today. The first was a heated waterer that I didn’t get plugged in because I’m brain damaged & forgot I would need a way for the power cord to get out of the main pen over to the power source. It also didn’t work out very well in that it took a stupidly long time to get it balanced on two cinder blocks. Pretty sure most of the water dumped out of it before the birds were released from Dante’s Inferno Room. I apparently get one idea that works per year now & I used that up on wrapping the main pen in plastic to keep the snow out.

The other new thing was banana slices on circus squash. The birds went crazy for them. I already knew that Damien liked bananas since that’s how I got him to stick around & not leave. I didn’t expect the chickens to react the same way he does for them. Sparta kept stealing slices & then would run off to eat it in hiding. That little chicken is the most adorable thing ever.

We have another fox hanging around the barn again. I’m a little worried about my Demon Twins being in there alone at night since I don’t think it’s all that secure in there (Tangent: let’s be honest – I would need to put all my animals up in an actual mansion with a 24hr security detail for me to feel like they were “secure”). As far as I can tell, the fox hasn’t gotten any of the members of The Cult Of The Five Feral Black Bunnies or any of the members of The Family (Ragnar, Lagertha & their offspring in the barn) or The Off World Colony (Tawanda, Leo, Samson, Zula & Smoke) & there doesn’t appear to be any indications that it’s trying to get at either groups of birds. Still, the last two foxes Dad trapped were significantly large males & had wiped out almost all the rabbits at the time (Delilah & her last litter included), so of course I’m worried.

Lila’s still doing her best impersonation of a pancake covering a golf ball. She is the most determined of the three smaller pullets to try & hatch those golf balls. I had to take them out of the nesting boxes again, so I’ll probably have a few days were everyone thinks that because the golf balls aren’t in the nesting boxes that means they should lay their eggs wherever. I would be more than happy to let her, Nyx & Sparta hatch some babies if the weather weren’t still trying to be Hoth & if their eggs were actually fertilised. I’m not sure if Odysseus has tried mating with them or not. I do know that they are still pretty terrified of him. I’m thinking of moving them over to Memnoch’s pen in the spring since they accepted him as their alpha & weren’t afraid of him. I was worried that Memnoch would be too heavy to mate with Nyx & Sparta because they’re a lot slighter than he is, but I won’t know until I put them all back into the Normandy Flock again.
