These two yellow-eyed demon chickens did fine outside overnight. Also, holy crap! Their eyes turned yellow! They were greenish-hazel last month. Anyhow. They did fine & since I was too depressed & worried about my mom (she’s okay – she had some masses biopsied for uterine cancer yesterday & she got the news today that they were benign) to go into work, I stayed home & got the pen rearranged enough to put them outside with their parents.

I wish this picture was more clear. Calypso actually ran into that nesting box to see if it was suitable for egg laying. It wasn’t this time, but now I know they’re checking it out. On a slight tangent, the hens look hilarious when they’re running around trying to find a place to lay their eggs. Their abdomen & wings drop & they almost get this panicked look on their faces. I don’t know why it makes me laugh as much as it does.

Like with the last time, Odysseus was a little chippy with his kids being in the pen at first. He got over it pretty fast. Penelope is still the only hen interested in the chicks. She’s just the sweetest thing. They all stayed outside together all day, so I feel close to okay putting them all together again tomorrow so I can put the 3 Amigos out in the garage. Doing a bit of musical chairs right now until I can get that extension off the south side of the pen made this weekend.
