I thought that maybe that last Ayam Cemani egg was developing, just a little slower than the others, since it started to show what looked like blood vessels. Unfortunately, I think it is blood or blood vessels but I don’t think it’s developing into a chick. I’ll most likely end up taking the 3 non-developing eggs out on Friday & put the 2 extra in with an egg from my flock.

No photos today. This little guy died in my hands as I tried to save him this morning. It was really awful. He seemed fine on Sunday when I found the other bunny dead in the enclosure. I wasn’t able to catch the Goth Bunny, so I hope that’s a good sign. It was just a sad day.

{Animal Mad Scientristry} Year 2, Day 3

I have the same amount of self control as Cookie Monster = 0.00%. I candled the eggs already & to my surprise, 4 out of the 7 very clearly have development. The good news is that 3 of the 4 Ayam Cemani eggs are developing! The disappointing news is that the Ohiki & d’Anvers eggs don’t appear to have development. I’m going to give them until Day 7 before I pull any eggs out as duds, just in case.

The runt from the last litter of Lagertha & Ragnar’s line died sometime this week. I think it was during the blizzard. They body was laying out in the pen & I had to bury it behind the barn this afternoon. Some of the birds have symptoms of the MG showing back up thanks to the storm, so I’ll have to talk to Dr. Miller about dosing the entire flock with something along with worming them all.

(The bunny in the live trap didn’t die, it just set the trap off when it went in there to investigate the bait. I had to pull Lila out of one yesterday when she did the same thing.)

This spring’s batch of eggs from Boggy Bottom Bantams! 4 Ayam Cemani, 2 Black Phoenix Bantams, 1 Black Ohiki, 1 Blue Silver Quail d’Anvers & 1 I’m not sure about because the writing got smudged. Only 7 are in the incubator right now – I kept the Unknown & 1 Black Phoenix out until Day 3-4 when I candle. If any of the eggs that are currently in now don’t develop, I’ll switch them out.

They were supposed to be delivered on Wednesday when the blizzard hit, so they didn’t get delivered. They showed up on Thursday & they didn’t seem frozen & none had cracks. They went in the incubator yesterday.

Hopefully, I can get at least 1 Ayam Cemani it hatch.

When Memnoch barges in & takes over the flock, Penelope is the only hen who stays with Odysseus. Nice bit of luck when I named her.

Everyone survived the blizzard. And once a majority of the snow left by it had melted, it turned out that either Ginny or Beauty & Mason had a little brood of 3 some weeks ago. They seem to have a burrow under the deck & the entire Cult of the Five Feral Black Bunnies have been sticking pretty close to the porch with the tiny new babies. They all look like Delilah & Samson, so that took Big Alice out of the running as the mom (she’s from Lagertha & Ragnar’s first litter).
